SMD

We, the people involved at SMD Konstanz, come from different churches, ethnical backgrounds and a variety of different branches of study. We become one in our faith in Jesus Christ and our engagement for our faith at the University of Konstanz and the HTWG. We gather at our regular meetings and organize many events in and around Konstanz.
|
The SMD (Studentenmission Deutschland) is a network of Christian students and academics existing at over 70 universities and colleges all over Germany. The SMD is part of IFES (International Fellowship of Evangelical Students) and shares the basic beliefs of the WEA (World Evangelic Alliance).

What we believe
|
We believe that what the Bible says is true.
|
To put this faith into words has been a continuing challenge since the beginning of Christianity because our faith is not only comprised of our intellectual convictions but also of our intimate and trusting relationship between us and God. Both aspects complement each other, relate to each other and are incomplete without each other. At the SMD, we try to cultivate both of them.

We believe that God is real and that he wants a relationship with us. We experience this to be true when we listen to God and confide in him, and when we thank and worship him. We maintain this relationship individually and also corporately as we sing worship songs together, pray with and for each other and encourage one another to trust in God.

The foundation of our faith is found in the Bible. By reading it, we learn more about God's character, we discover principles that we want to practice and find God's promises for our lives. We let its words challenge us to rethink our convictions and follow the Holy Spirit's guidance when doing so.

Our ministry at the university and the college is significantly influenced by one experience in our lives: God's grace. As humans, we are incapable of living our lives without hurting each other and hurting God. All these things ("sin") come with a price which is separation from God. On our own, we can't redeem ourselves. God reacted to this situation with an amazing act: He - as his son Jesus Christ - died on a cross to pay the price. This happens without us having to work or do anything for it. If we accept this offer, we can start a relationship with God and his forgiveness transforms our life: We gain freedom from our own wrong doings, we receive inner peace and our compassion for the people around us grows. This invitation from God and our experiences with him impact us so much that we want to spread the message and encourage others to respond to God's great invitation.
